About us

KOSHKA BERLIN was founded in 2022 by Berlin based designer Florian Markl-Berger to elevate contemporary rug design. KOSHKA BERLIN produces high-density cut pile wool rugs that, as modern design originals, add real aesthetic value to any interior design. Our high-quality rugs are produced on-demand in Sweden in a resource-saving way.

BEHIND THE SCENES

We attach great importance to a transparent supply chain and fair production conditions at every step of the creation of our products. Fundamental sustainability principles serve us not only as a business guideline, but always as an ethical one as well.

All of our rugs are produced on-demand using robotic tufting. This allows us to respond to individual customer requirements and save resources. This innovative, digital and automated process is complemented by the loving handiwork of skilled rug experts. The high-quality new wool used in this process comes from New Zealand crossbred sheep and is of course mulesing-free.

Our production partner is an established, family-run company from southern Sweden with many years of experience that not only impresses with its quality, but also sets new standards with its innovative and environmentally friendly production processes.

Our cooperation therefore not only fulfills the requirement for transparent and fair production in Europe, it also ensures a qualitative and precise translation of graphic designs into a high-quality carpet product.

Florian Markl Berger

About the founder

Florian Markl-Berger studied product design and visual communication at the Hochschule für Gestaltung / University of Art and Design Offenbach. After graduating, he worked as an independent designer and art director in Frankfurt am Main, New York City and Berlin, among other places. His work has won several design awards, including the ADC and Red Dot Award, and has been shown in renowned exhibition venues such as the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt and the ZKM Karlsruhe.
Markl-Berger often moved undogmatically between the disciplines of graphic and product design, large-scale wall design and spatial design. This interplay of different design genres ultimately led him to focus on the medium of rug and foundation of the label KOSHKA BERLIN. As the designer responsible for the label, his focus is on developing an independent design position within contemporary rug design based on the visual conceptual methods of graphic design.

Katze auf einer Couch

Koshka

In the Slavic language »Koshka« means cat. And in the Markl-Berger family, KOSHKA BERLIN also commemorates by name a very special cat that inspired the family for many years with its gentle appearance, stubbornness, liveliness, beauty and warmth. We could not imagine a more suitable namesake.
